Rowan's Law - Removal-from-Sport & Return-to-Sport Policy

  • Tsunami Sports & Recreation recognizes that participation in any sport or physical activity bears some inherent risk of head injuries and concussions. Tsunami Sports & Recreation is fully committed to maintaining the health and safety of its members, and recognizes that short-and long-term consequences of concussions pose a significant public health issue.

  • This Policy applies at all times wherever a Tsunami Volleyball activity takes place. This Policy document focuses primarily on Prevention and Surveillance of concussions, and supplements the Concussion Protocol, which covers the areas of Awareness, Detection, and Management.

  • Prevention strategies include:

    • Limiting contact during practice and games, particularly for younger participants.

    • Modifying rules to limit the use of certain drills or techniques to reduce the risk of head injury.

    • Ensuring that equipment fits well, is in good condition, is stored properly, and is replaced according to manufacturers’ instructions.

    • Ensuring fair play and respect for opponents are ethical values that are instilled in all sport, recreation and physical activities carried out by the organization.

  • Any Tsunami Volleyball Event Coordinator, Organizer, or Host are designates for the removal of participants who show signs or symptoms of a concussion.

  • Tsunami Sports & Recreation will make concussion resources available to all members, including this Policy and the Concussion Protocol.
